So…what is Holistic Health?
Holistic health is a concept that all potential contributing factors which may affect a person’s well-being, are taken into consideration when assessing a person’s overall health. Holistic health in traditional medical practice upholds that all aspects of people’s needs, physical, social, and mental, should be taken into account and seen as a whole. In alternative medicine, it is believed that the spiritual aspect should also be taken into account when assessing a person’s overall well-being. The spiritual aspect is not associated with any religious ideology but rather, refers to the essence or “core self” of a person.
The holistic approach takes the broadest possible view of illness and disease, identifying multiple causes (both internal and external), and offering multi-dimensional “healing,” as opposed to specific “cures.” Taking into account one’s body, mind, emotions, and spirit, holistic health combines the best of modern scientific diagnosis and monitoring techniques with both ancient and innovative health promotion methods. It addresses not only symptoms, but the entire person, and his or her current life predicament. It emphasises prevention, health maintenance, high-level wellness and longevity. It views the client as an active participant in the healing process, rather than simply a passive recipient of “health care.” Learn more about holistic health here,
